| ¡¡¡¡The Institute of Rural Education was established in August 1999, out of the former Institute of General Education of the Northeast Normal University, reinforced with staff from the university's School of Education, the Institute of Curriculum, Teaching Materials and Method, and the Institute of Comparative Education, as reflects the Northeast Normal University's ideological reasoning servicing for K-12 education for a long history. As an independent research entity under direct leadership of the university, the institute is administered with a system of entrusted dean, mobile personnel, and contracted projects. The institute is expected to become, in three years' time, an important base for the nation's rural educational studies, staff training, and academic exchanges, as well as a data and information center, with which government departments nay consult upon matters of educational policies for the country. ¡¡¡¡The institute now boasts a faculty of 3 professors qualified to supervise Ph.D. students, 12 professors and 3 associated professors. And at the moment, 7 doctorate and 32 master's degree postgraduates are studying at the institute. Based on its devoted research work on rural education, the institute has yielded many academic books and papers, and has been two times granted the Nation Award for "advanced normal-university-based programs of basic education reform experimentation", making the university prominent among teacher-training institutions in this respect. ¡¡¡¡The institute attaches great importance to academic exchange programs and has been taking an active part in sponsoring and auspice national and international academic conferences. Centered round research projects, the institute had conducted joint surveys and studies with scholars from U.S., Canada, Japan, South Korea, Russia, etc. ¡¡¡¡Now, suited to the market system as will as a new educational scheme, the institute is striving towards its aim of becoming a first-class rural educational research center, well knowned both at home and abroad. |
